THE NAME
"INTABA"
The cognate word for “Mountain” in Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele and Tswana (thaba) is Intaba. It means Mountain to the majority of the South Africa population. Intaba is not just an elite mountaineering brand – its a culture. It’s a shared love of Africa’s natural world along with its wild and vast mountain ranges.
Intaba products are made in South Africa, from South African materials, supporting small South African businesses and employing and empowering South Africans, wherever possible.
Our mission is to create high-quality clothing and accessories that compete with top international brands, whilst having our feet firmly planted on African soil.

Richard
FOUNDER
Richie, the driving force behind Intaba, is a relentless adventurer and entrepreneur whose boundless energy and ambition set him apart. After completing his British Royal Marine training and service in Afghanistan, Richie built a successful private security company, traveling to many parts of Africa and the world at large. After selling his security company, Richie’s love of Africa ignited a passion for conservation and supporting local South African communities which is what his current businesses and charities focus on to this day.
Married to Lauren, a South African, Richie’s passion extends beyond business to his favorite pastimes, including CrossFit, trail running, hiking, mountain climbing, swimming and, more recently, padel. His experiences in extreme environments—ranging from Arctic cold to desert heat—fuel his dedication to creating top-notch adventure gear. At Intaba, Richie’s vision is inspired by his military background and real-world testing, ensuring that every product meets the highest standards of performance and durability.
Richie’s boundless enthusiasm and hands-on approach to innovation make him a force of nature in the world of adventure gear, constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Jonny
FOUNDER
Hey, my name is Jonny Golding and I originally hale from a small Fishing town on the North East Coast England. Having always made our home around the ocean it’s something I could honestly not live without. To be able to step out your front door and just take a few steps to surf in the ocean or take a run out in the wilderness is what makes me tick.
Having relocated to Cape Town in 2017 after retiring from a long career playing pro rugby this was a perfect move for my young family and myself. Cape Town and South Africa is Natures Playground and with the warmer climate it allows us to really live that outdoor life that we all love so much all year round. If you can’t find me in the Ocean I will most likely be out running in the mountains, never really have been able to sit down for long, just never been one of my skills.
Outside of sports my other interest are graphic design, photography and travelling to new places with my awesome little family.
